The Nerabus Gorse Navy Gin is the Navy Strength expression of the well-regarded Gorse Gin from the Isle of Islay Gin distillery. Alongside Heather Navy, it is one of two Navy Strength releases (bottled at 57%) inspired by the Royal Navy tradition of testing alcohol strength by pouring gin over gunpowder: if it ignited, the gin was considered “proof.”
The recipe is the same as the classic Gorse Gin, with nine main botanicals including juniper, citrus, sweet almond, and hand-picked wild gorse from the hills of Islay. This plant, the star botanical of the recipe, blooms abundantly on the island with its bright yellow flowers, releasing natural aromas of almond and coconut. Harvesting is carried out sustainably during spring and summer, and the flowers are then dried to best preserve their aromatic qualities.
The Nerabus Gorse Navy Gin embodies a powerful, structured gin where the elevated strength amplifies the richness of the local botanicals: sweet almond is at its fullest, gorse opens with sweetness and floral tones, juniper provides structure and depth, while almond and spice complete the profile with elegance. Perfect for those seeking an intense yet refined gin, deeply connected to the unspoiled nature of Islay.
