August 15, 2004 – Two Roman brothers traveling through Ireland stumble, almost by chance, upon a distillery with a capital “H” for history: Jameson. And just like that, an unexpected yet powerful passion is born—the very one that probably led you to read these lines.
We are those two brothers: Diego and Igor, founders of Whisky Italy. And the passion that defines us is, naturally, for whisky, or whiskey. But that’s not all! If you’ve found yourself on this website and are reading this text, well... that passion has expanded to include other spirits too. That’s how Passione Gin came to life.
What sparked it? Maybe it was the awe and wonder we felt when we first saw this spirit being made through traditional methods. Or perhaps it was the charm of its history, or the aroma of the most natural ingredients.
What matters is that the following year brought another journey, this time to Scotland, and without a doubt, it was all about exploring its famous distilleries.
But it was only after returning to Italy that we realized how many questions still needed answers and how many curiosities remained unsatisfied.
That’s how our learning journey began—often in our spare time or after long, exhausting workdays. But that wasn’t enough. So we poured our energy into tastings, more dedicated trips, and we didn’t miss a single industry fair for years.
Eventually, single malts, bourbons, blended whiskies, and moonshine no longer held secrets from us. But wow, what an effort! Too much, really. And on top of that, buying whisky? Even harder! Not a single Italian blog at the time that went beyond tasting notes or basic info about aging, let alone a portal where you could learn everything, say, about Irish or Japanese whiskey, or simply begin exploring this extraordinary spirit.
So we combined our passion, our experience, and our desire to create a virtual space with a soul, somewhere people could truly find information and curiosities about whisky. We also added a healthy dose of courage and entrepreneurial spirit.
That’s how Whisky Italy was born, with the goal of making the world of whisky and its secrets accessible to everyone, to foster knowledge and mindful enjoyment.
After ten years of activity, we felt ready to explore a new passion: gin. For years now, we’ve been following its tradition and evolution, and we’re ready to bring our experience and expertise into this new portal: a new home where we hope everyone who arrives, like you, will feel welcome and want to return, even just to discover the next curiosity and dive, even for a moment, into the fascinating universe of this spirit made of tradition and poetry.
