PJ Rigney has long turned his travel experiences into distilled creations, and this time is no exception.
The Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin – Sardinian Citrus Edition was inspired by a journey to Sardinia, which took Rigney to the picturesque village of Siniscola, in the heart of the Baronia. There, he discovered an extraordinary and rare fruit: the Sa Pompia, also known as Citrus monstruosa or Citrus limon var. pompia. This endemic citrus, named in the Sardinian language, is often described as a natural hybrid between citron and grapefruit, renowned for its intense aroma, thick peel, and bold flavour. Considered one of the rarest citrus fruits in the world, Sa Pompia is cultivated almost exclusively in the Siniscola area and embodies the wild, authentic essence of the Mediterranean.
Fascinated by this unique ingredient, Rigney decided to weave it into the aromatic universe of his celebrated gin. The result is a vibrant and sunny version of The Gunpowder, where the bright citrus notes of Sa Pompia blend harmoniously with the classic botanicals of The Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, creating a fresh, exotic, and deeply Mediterranean sensory experience.

Colour: Clear, crystalline.
Nose: Opens with bright, intense citrus notes dominated by the powerful fragrance of Sa Pompia, accompanied by fresh nuances of kaffir lime and an elegant base of Gunpowder green tea. Juniper remains present yet discreet, allowing space for a complex, exotic, and Mediterranean bouquet.
Palate: Lively and fresh on the palate, with an opening dominated by the Sardinian citrus, delivering a pleasant, tangy acidity. Spicy and vegetal notes then unfold, perfectly balanced with the balsamic character of juniper and the softness of the classic botanicals.
Finish: Long and clean, with persistent citrus notes and a slight bitterness typical of pompia peel. Closes with herbal and spicy tones, leaving a dry, elegant, and refreshing sensation.
