The Downpour Coast & Croft Gin is the latest craft creation from the North Uist Distillery, a bold and authentic gin that captures the true essence of the Outer Hebrides. Every sip reflects the taste of its land: the coast, represented by Palmaria palmata (also known as pepper dulse), and the “croft,” the traditional island smallholding, enriched by the aromatic fragrance of wild thyme. A croft is more than just land: it is a fundamental part of island culture, a small plot dedicated to family subsistence, where people grow, raise, and live in harmony with nature.
The botanicals are distilled using a method designed to preserve their essential oils, keeping aromas and natural fragrances intact. The result is a spirit of great intensity and finesse. The gin is bottled in elegant turquoise glass, in the unmistakable Downpour Gin style. Its color recalls the clear, sparkling waters of the bays surrounding the Hebrides, creating an immediate visual connection with its place of origin.
A London Dry with a vibrant citrus profile, enhanced by refined marine notes and a wave of wild umami on the finish, offering a powerful, original, and deeply local sensory experience.

Color: Clear, crystalline.
Nose: Bright and vibrant: citrus notes burst to the forefront, leading the aromatic profile, followed by fresh tones of green herbs. In the background, juniper emerges, accompanied by a delicate sea breeze.
Palate: Fresh and dry, juniper weaves harmoniously with lively citrus notes and the herbal nuances of wild thyme. The true signature of this gin comes from Palmaria palmata, a red seaweed that adds a savory, umami character—refined and surprisingly persistent.
Finish: Long and distinctive: an authentic explosion of wild umami that elegantly closes a sip profoundly tied to the coastal and rural landscape of the Outer Hebrides.
